Workshop 2

Thematic Workshop „Sustainable Agriculture B“

Chairs: Erika CsakineMichéli (St Istvan University, Gödöllö), Marija Romic (University of Zagreb, Faculty of Agriculture)

The workshop was organized in two small groups of both presenters and conference paticipants attending the sessions. The topics of the research presented in first session were quite mixed: from biogas production, genotypes selection, effects of specific growing measures on grapevine yield and certain quality indicators to greenhouse gas emission. Such diverse topics raised questions in areas like food for energy, production or energy consuming energy production. When discussing conventional against organic agriculture, organic carbon balance is always standing as a key issue.

On Friday, May 4 the discussions continued about the use of compost produced from biodegradable waste. The second presentation opened an interesting discussion about the varieties, planting systems and growing measures that influence fruit tree growth and productivity. One of the presenters scheduled on the second day session unfortunately cancelled his participation (A. Taoutaou, USAMV Cluj-Napoca).

The general impression of thematic workshop SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE (B) is that the topics were highly diverse with a slight lack of  connecting problem statements. Only a few participants were attending the sessions besides the presenters. Therefore, two or three outcomes of the thematic workshop SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE (B) may be recommended as a topic for one of the next CASEE conference workshops, like  „food and bioenergy production“ or „managing soil organic matter and C sequestration“.

We thank all presenters for the insightful presentations and lively discussions!
